Rhode Island Family Shelter is a grass roots agency with no ties to a national federation or The United Way. Our annual budget is approximately $500,000. Government funding accounts for approximately 40% of this budget through various federal and city competitive grants. The remainder must be raised through corporate and foundation funding, church and community donations.
A community based Board of Directors governs the policy making of The Rhode Island Family Shelter. Board members include local business people, community leaders and representatives from an ecumenical group of congregations.
Our employees include an Executive Director, Case Manager, Child Care Coordinator, Shelter Manager, Volunteer Coordinator, Apartment Case Manager and a Maintenance Caretaker. Along with these employees our shelter is thankful for the time and effort given by approximately 70 volunteers.
