"My name is Mr. Mayor," Ten years ago in the wintertime, I was homeless .I was cold, hungry and tired. Roaming from one place to the next. I finally found a window shelf of The Rhode Island Family Shelter. I rested there to get away from the cold snowy weather. ![]() After crying and scratching at the door window, a lady with a sad look opened it and let me in. She picked me up and cuddled me so I could get warm. She was talking so nice and told me her name was Dawn, and that she is the shelter manager. We went down to the kitchen where she gave me some scraps and warm milk and said "I will be back, "Here little one, you can sleep here for the night" " It’s time to wake up little one." I heard her say. You will have to go now your family is probably wondering where you are. How could I tell her I don't have a home and there is no place for me to go. Well, off I went, it was cold and the snow was deep now. I kept walking and walking but didn't know where I was going. I heard some people talking and ran to the door with them. Well, I looked in, but they didn't see me. "Here I am” I kept calling. The door opened and it was Dawn. I was so happy to see her again. She invited me to the kitchen; this is my favorite place to be. Dawn was talking about me to some people that were having lunch. I heard them say, he needs a home. It's ten years later now and this has been my home. I always meet nice people, they give me food, a warm bed, oh and a birthday party just for me. Many Hugs and Lots of Love Mr. Mayor |
